Fixed 4G refers to the use of a 4G mobile network by a mobile operator to provide fixed internet access. The mobile network then provides a connection to both the mobile and fixed customers of the operator.
The advantage of fixed 4G is that, in areas where mobile 4G is available but where population density is low, it can rapidly bring high-quality broadband to households that currently have no access to satisfactory fixed Internet access services.
Following the agreement reached in early 2018 between the Government, Arcep, and operators on mobile coverage (the New Deal Mobile), operators have obligations to provide fixed 4G.
Thus, since 31 December 2018, all mobile operators have been obliged to provide a fixed internet access service, on their 4G mobile networks, in areas that they identify and make public (Decision No. 2018-0169).
Since September 2019, the 4 operators have actually had fixed 4G commercial offers.
